Franklin University, AS, Business Management, & Microsoft® Office User Specialist (MOUS), Expert Level

Professional background: worked as a PC professional for the State of Ohio for eight years, then [have] taught PC courses since 1995 (13 years). Sole proprietor of a business offering bookkeeping & grant management services.

Introduction to PCs Using Windows XP®, Excel, Access, Visual Basic® for Applications, Dreamweaver®, HTML, & XML. Also substitute for Photoshop®, Word, and PowerPoint®. Favorite classes are Excel and Access.

[I have] 13 years experience in teaching the subjects; however, I've been using the PC applications I teach for 17 years. I have been teaching at The Ohio State University Office of Continuing Education (CEd) for the past seven years.

My teaching style is unique. I make sure the least experienced student is comfortable with the class and "gets it." I like to make sure that all students have the opportunity to "teach me" in order to reinforce what they have learned. My philosophy comes from Battelle Institute's study ... "If you teach, you retain 95 percent," so I allow the students to share while they learn together. I also use PowerPoint® overheads to help me teach the courses. Most of all, I make learning fun and have fun doing so.

Taking courses at the Office of Continuing Education is a comfortable, informative experience. Classes are small, and fellow students come from similar adult business sectors. The personal hands-on training you get here demonstrates a real-world experience. The one-day classes are least disruptive for the working student.

question 6

The Office of Continuing Education is a greatly needed educational service, which keeps employees up-to-date with new technologies. Everyone should take advantage of the educational experiences offered at CEd.
