Work Narratives and Literacies: What People Say About Their Jobs and What It Tells Us About Who We Are
How we see ourselves and others is often tied to what we do. The beliefs, values, and practices that you hold about work will begin our critical exploration through reading, writing, and discussions of the role of work in culture and recent history. During this class, you will write about your own experiences and ideas, do interviews and other ethnographic research, and collaborate with your classmates in a variety of ways to create texts that examine broader attitudes about work. We’ll progress from looking at the personal aspects of work to workers’ stories within larger social (and perhaps political) contexts. In doing so, you’ll learn good writing practices, including how to question and support your own arguments. A complete course description is available at ced.osu.edu/bridgecourses.html.
