Employers
consider your performance during the interview as the Most
Important hiring consideration. During the interview,
the employer is attempting to answer two questions: |
 |
Can
you do the job? |
 |
Will
you fit into the organizations culture? |
|
| Your
goal is to understand the employer’s concerns and confidently
communicate your skills and abilities to present an accurate
picture of how you would contribute to their success. |
|
 |
 |
|
|
The
knowledge and technical skills you possess are a key consideration
to employers. Discuss your experiences and achievements that
relate directly to the open position. Demonstrate that you
can make an immediate contribution to the organization. Although
it is impossible to anticipate every potential question, you
should rehearse stories that convey your skills and provide
a relevant example of a situation, the action you took, and
the results of your actions. Don’t invent experiences
that you don’t have. Past performance is the best predictor
of future success, so be prepared to discuss your achievements! |
 |
 |
 |
Many
companies make an effort to hire and keep employees who
“fit” their corporate culture. By researching
companies prior to the interview, you can obtain information
about potential employers that will indicate whether or
not they will be satisfying workplaces. Employers typically
are seeking candidates with a positive attitude, excellent
work ethic and strong motivation. Be prepared to discuss
your personal characteristics which demonstrate these qualities.
Traits such as honesty, independence, dependability, and
enthusiasm are highly valued by employers and contribute
to your performance.
