Are you frustrated with your current position? Is the climb up the corporate ladder moving more slowly than anticipated? Maybe it’s time for an Extreme Career Makeover!

Begin by evaluating your skills, interests and values. Self assessment can assist in determining if your current occupation is a good fit for you. To increase the challenge at work, volunteer to take on new projects; you will develop additional skills and your contribution will increase your value to the organization.
Revisit (or develop!) your career goals and objectives to determine where you want to be professionally and how you’ll get there. Develop an action plan that includes steps you can work on each day to help get you closer to your goal. Goals should include personal and professional development opportunities, such as additional training, increased responsibilities, and improved effectiveness. Be specific and set timelines for reaching your goals. This will help you evaluate your progress.
Find a mentor that can provide feedback and advice based on their own personal experience. Your mentor can help you establish and monitor your career development progress.
Engage in continuous learning through books, professional associations, workshops and seminars. Find ways to apply what you learn. Staying current in your field will help you identify ways to contribute to the organization.
Increase your reputation as a team player; display your integrity and trustworthiness for others to see. Own up to, and learn from, your mistakes. A solid reputation among colleagues will provide increased credibility.
An Extreme Career Makeover is more than changing the packaging on the product. It involves building on your current qualifications and taking them to the next level. Take the opportunity to reassess your current situation and identify your career goals to increase your professional value.
